Alexi Murdoch – Towards the Sun

Standard

Alexi Murdoch is our generation’s Nick Drake.  No one has a voice quite like his.  Yesterday, Alexi released his second album Towards the Sun which is now available everywhere.  For those not familiar with Alexi Murdoch (shame on you), he gained a huge following after 2009’s  Away We Go (featuring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph) used his songs for the soundtrack.  If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly suggest you go and rent it.  Now.  GO!  Watch the trailer here.

I might go watch it now that I just rewatched the trailer…  Hm.

Each song is written so eloquently that you can’t help but just float along from track to track.  NPR is currently featuring the album as its Exclusive First Listen.  Having a crappy day?  Then, go here, click play, and let the whole album play.  It will be worth your time.

Alexi actually recorded this album in one night with a tape machine and then waited six months before listening to them.  The best part?  He ended up loving the songs he created and spent time fine-tuning them which resulted in Towards the Sun.

I have been waiting for this album for months and am so excited that it is finally here.  You can download a free MP3 from the album at Alexi’s Bandcamp page.
