Odaytay isway Idayfray!  I’mway osay excitedway!

Ok.  Sorry.  I honestly thought that maybe I would write this whole post in pig latin for no reason other than I’m in a goofy mood.  Then I realized how many people it would make mad/confused/annoyed/WTF, so I opted not to do it.

For some entertainment, you should press play on the video below, and watch the cat do his magic.

I can’t stop watching!!  HE’S SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

Ok.  I can tell that I’m going to get easily distracted today.

IT’S THE WEEKEND!

Leann Grimes – Cats & Dogs in Idaho

Standard

I’ve been pretty crazy about The Head and the Heart this year (starting in December) and was able to see them live back in February with Bret.  I knew they would get big this year…

Anyways, Shane Conerty (AKA Leann Grimes) put together an album full of wonderfully mixed songs.  The songs that really caught my ear were “Cats & Dogs in Idaho” and “Ms. Grimes.”  Shane doesn’t mashup any music but puts his own personal touch to the song, much like Big Z Remixes does.  I think this type of music needs its own name.  It’s not necessarily a “remix,” and it’s not a “mash-up…”

Hmm…  Things to consider.

Other dogs that can be found on the album include:

  • “Egyptain Robe”, by Miniature Tigers
  • “Memory Boy”, by Deerhunter
  • “Got To Move”, by CAKE
  • “Under Cover Of Darkness”, by The Strokes
  • “Shadow People”, by Dr. Dog
  • “Mrs. Cold”, by Kings Of Convenience
  • “Excuses”, by The Morning Benders
  • “One Last”, by Avi Buffalo
  • “Mary”, by Yellow Ostrich
  • “World News”, by Local Natives
  • “Keep Me In Mind”, by Little Joy
  • “Summersong”, by The Decemberists
  • “The Wild Hunt”, by The Tallest Man On Earth

You can listen/download songs from the album from his bandcamp page.   You can also go to his SoundCloud page and download from there.  Once again, this is more chill music for you to add to you summer mixes.

Enjoy!

Cris Cab – Good Girls

Cris Cab Good Girls

This is the perfect summer song… and  I wish I had this view in front of me while I was listening to it.

I think that we will be hearing a lot from Cris Cab in the next year.  Parts of his voice sounds like Bob Marley.  Other parts sound like Bruno Mars (especially when he hits those higher notes).

Cris claims that his Cuban descent and frequent visits to the Bahamas helped give him inspiration for his musical sound which is a combination of both hip-hop and reggae mixed with a little acoustic.  He did a cover of Kanye’s “All of the Lights” and Wiz’s “Black and Yellow,” so of course he gets some bonus points from me.  “Good Girls”  is a breezy, catchy tune for this summer — and it’s true!  Good girls don’t grow on trees.

Cris is only 18 years old, from Miami, and wanted to wait until he graduated high school before taking any meetings from record companies although I’m pretty sure he’ll be signed to Pharrell Williams’ label

Take a listen to the cover songs he did below.  If I were still in junior high/high school, I would be swooning over this kid… Not Justin Beaver Cleaver.

Cris Cab – All of the Lights (cover)

Cris Cab – Black and Yellow (cover)

Beastie Boys – Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (Album)

Standard

It’s hereeeeee.

This album is going to be so great to have for the summer! My favorites are:

  • “Make Some Noise — Perfect!  Very old school.  Around the 2:00 mark there’s cowbell.  “I got a feva’…. and the only prescription is more cowbell.”

  • “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” — Santigold?  They got Santigold???  This song is tons of fun… BB + reggae = SUMMER!
  • “Funky Donkey” — Forget about “Brass Monkey…”  Listen to “Funky Donkey!”  Steel drums!!
  • “Here’s a Little Something For Ya” — More cowbell!  And that wobbly bass in the back is pretty fun.

You can listen to the whole album below.

Kid Cudi – Capcom

Standard

Oh boy.  Capcom = Street Fighter II = CHILDHOOD MEMORIESSS!

Kid Cudi has released a new song this week called “Capcom.”  I have SO many memories of playing all the Street Fighter II games in my brother’s bedroom with both Rich and Steph.  Seeing Kid Cudi’s song encouraged me to go dig up some music from Street Fighter II.  Seriously, play this video below and TRY not to remember this awesome game:

My favorite theme song/board song was Blanka’s.

Anyways, Kid Cudi’s song doesn’t feature any of these fabulous songs from Street Fighter, but the song itself is very reminiscent of what the songs used to be (think of Guile’s theme song).  Rumor has it that this song will be featured in his upcoming summer mixtape “A Man Called Scott.”

Big Z Remixes – Various Mixtapes

Standard

These songs are the best thing you will hear all summer.  Seriously, go to Big Z’s Facebook page, like him, and download these songs ASAP.

I fell in love with Big Z Remixes when I heard his remix of Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi’s “That Tree.”  Bret and I played that non-stop last summer.  Recently, I found out he just released his fourth mixtape “Never Change.”  It is amazing how Big Z can completely transform a song.  I love when rap songs have some symphony “influence” blended into them.  For instance, I still can listen to Kanye West’s “Gone” over and over again because of that repetitive piano chord playing throughout the song… and THEN!  Cue the violins!

Things I would like to call out about Big Z that makes him awesome:

  • He’s from Pennsylvania
  • He’s a TEENAGER (junior in high school)
  • He doesn’t  use a computer program to make his beats.  No — instead, he records the guitar and synth parts himself and makes his own drum beats
  • His favorite band is Ratatat (which explains why his music is great)

Big Z Remixes are full of songs that you can play from beginning to end and are SO chill.  I will definitely be listening to all of his mixtapes this summer.

You can download all of his mixtapes by going to his info page on his Facebook page here: BIG Z REMIX FACEBOOK PAGE // DOWNLOAD

I was even nice enough to put all of his songs into a playlist so you can listen to them at your liking.  I can’t pick a favorite because they all are equally amazing.  Just put the playlist below on shuffle and enjoy:

Wiz Khalifa – No Sleep

Standard

I’m really feeling this song right now.  I can’t wait to drive around Pittsburgh with the windows rolled down, sun shining, and this song turned up.

I also much prefer this “weekend” song over Rebecca Black’s “Friday.”

HAH.  Hasn’t gotten old yet…

Wiz’s new mixtape “Rolling Papers” comes out March 29 and is anticipated to have a more mellow vibe than his previous mixtape.  During a Ustream, Wiz said that the title of the album wasn’t inspired just because he loves smoking weed, but that “it’s deeper than that too… it’s not just about the weed thing. It’s bigger than that,” he said. “My career really took off when I started smoking papers.”

Hm.

I’m looking forward to having a mellow album to play this summer, and I’m hoping “Rolling Papers” will be just the thing I need.
