I’m really feeling this song right now. I can’t wait to drive around Pittsburgh with the windows rolled down, sun shining, and this song turned up.
I also much prefer this “weekend” song over Rebecca Black’s “Friday.”
HAH. Hasn’t gotten old yet…
Wiz’s new mixtape “Rolling Papers” comes out March 29 and is anticipated to have a more mellow vibe than his previous mixtape. During a Ustream, Wiz said that the title of the album wasn’t inspired just because he loves smoking weed, but that “it’s deeper than that too… it’s not just about the weed thing. It’s bigger than that,” he said. “My career really took off when I started smoking papers.”
I’m looking forward to having a mellow album to play this summer, and I’m hoping “Rolling Papers” will be just the thing I need.
The list of people performing at Coachella 2011 came out this week. It’s interesting to me that they would put some bands in bigger letters than others when some of the better bands are actually the guys in point 4 font on the poster. Kings of Leon? Really? They had one good year… Don’t waste your time listening to “Use Somebody” when you could be listening to some other awesome bands.
And Kanye… I mean, his performances shouldn’t come as any surprise to anyone. Plus, he will sing all of his new stuff, but none of it is really that good (in my opinion).
I went through the poster and strategically pulled out who (if you are going) should not miss!
If I could, I would LOVE to see any of the artists below live. I’ve included their music videos (and a playlist at the bottom!) so you can see what kind of performers they actually are:
Robyn – Dancing on my Own Video and Dancehall Queen Video Brandon Flowers – Only the Young Video Afrojack (ft. Eva Simons) – Take Over Control Video Marina & the Diamonds – Oh No Video Arcade Fire – The Suburbs Video Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man Video Empire of the Sun – Walking on a Dream Video (and let’s not forget the Wiz Khalifa version here) Cage the Elephant – Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked Video The Swell Season – The Moon Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work Video Tallest Man on Earth – King of Spain Video Freelance Whales – Generator (Second Floor) Video Wiz Khalifa – Say Yeah Video (then) and Black & Yellow Video (now) Ratatat – Seventeen Years Video Duck Sauce – Barbara Streisand Video … and the one with Sid the Kid Video Tinie Tempah – Pass Out Video Riva Starr – I Was Drunk Video fun. – Walking the Dog Video Ellie Goulding – Your Song Video <– Love her… Rye Rye – Shake It to the Ground Video Eliza Doolittle – Skinny Genes Video
Do you have a song that you are obsessed with right now? … That song you listen to and then find yourself listening to over and over again? If you do, I want to know!
I’m going to put together a playlist of all your favorite music. Now, in order to do this, I’m going to need all of your help. If you want to suggest a song to be included in the playlist, please post your recommendation either as a comment to this post or as a comment on the Squeaker Box Facebook page.
You can post multiple songs or just one. I would really like to get a playlist together for all of you by Sunday, so get those recommendations going!
It’s still snowing here in Pittsburgh. I really would like to go sled riding (not to be confused with sledding) this weekend. I tried to get a picture of Nutmeg eating snow, but I didn’t do a very good job.
Here are my fave songs to get me in the the weekend mood (playlist at bottom of post):
Wiz Khalifa – “Stoned” Yelle – “Safari Disco Club” Lykke Li – “I Follow Rivers” Lil’ Wayne – “I Run This Flower Shop” (Bret and I have played this non-stop) Gucci Mane – “My Chain (Jonwayne’s Basement Mix) Eliza Doolittle – “Skinny Genes” (I’m a sucker for any whistle song) Natalia Kills – “Mirrors” (She has the potential to get really big) Lost in the Trees – “Tall Trees” Edward Sharpe vs. Kid Cudi – “Home is Wherever I’m With You” Starfucker – “Boy Toy”
I’m still pretty obsessed with Jessie J and can’t get enough of this acoustic version of “Nobody’s Perfect.” The song starts around 1:00.
And I’m still VERY MUCH obsessed with Little Comets. Check out this awesome live rendition of “One Night in October.” Love love love.
First and foremost, I want to apologize to you guys for not updating this blog for almost a month now. This past month has been more or less a nightmare that I’m trying to get out of. I tried to take a few minutes in my day today to put things in perspective, and I finally feel like everything’s going to be ok.
I went for a nice evening run (Yay for getting one more extra hour of sleep Saturday night! Boooo for it being pitch black at 5:30 PM) with Nutmeg tonight. I had a solid playlist going full songs that definitely got me motivated for this week. I’ve also included my new favorite songs for this week:
Only Girl in the World– Rihanna This song is my “Please Don’t Stop the Music.” When that song came out, I played it non-stop. This is my girl anthem for right now.
Know Your Name – Wiz Khalifa It’s nice to hear a “chill” song from Wiz. I’m glad that we have a rap artist representing Pittsburgh… Even though he’s having a rough week this week with getting caught with drugs and everything…
Scott Mescudi VS the World – Kid Cudi Kid Cudi’s sophomore album drops today (EEEK!) It’s not like I’ve been waiting for the past year for it or anything… I really don’t want to be disappointed with it, and after reading all the reviews coming in, it looks like I should be pretty satisfied.
Booty Bounce – Dev I’m so happy I found this song. “Like a G6” is a fun song to dance and workout to. HOWEVER, it’s only successful because of this song. Listen to around the 2:25 mark, and it’ll make sense.
Pass Out – Chris Brown I don’t like Chris Brown. I mean, I’m ashamed to even put his name on the same playlist as Rihanna… But I do like this song. The song is sung around Eric Prydz’ “Call On Me,” which makes the song hard not to like.
What’s Wrong With Them – Lil’ Wayne ft. Nicki Minaj Free Weezy — wait… he is free! For some reason, I feel like this song is applicable to my life right now. Nicki puts it best when she sings: “Baby, what the f-ck wrong, wrong with them?” I was ecstatic when this came on my shuffle. I felt like I could step on any stick/stone/crack while I was running and nothing could bring me down.
Mean Planes and Taylor Gangs – Brendan Duvall I don’t really enjoy Taylor Swift at all, but this mashup done by Brendan Duvall is great. Of course, it features Wiz (FREE WIZ). It’s inevitable that a mashup will be included in every one of my playlists.
All Along – Kid Cudi I love when Kid Cudi shows his softer side, and in this song, Kid Cudi isn’t the tough guy with a dark side that he is in every song. It’s a nice change of pace. Plus, I’m a sucker for a rap song with violins.
What’s My Name – Rihanna ft. Drake Love this duet. I don’t know why they had to break up. Rihanna + Drake = SUCH A GOOD COUPLE. Ugh. You can’t help but sway your head back and forth to this beat… Oh whoaaa oh.
Roman’s Revenge – Nicki Minaj ft. Eminem This… song… is… RIDICULOUS. I mean, it’s so weird — but I can’t stop listening to it. Nicki Minaj is the best female rapper out there right now, and for her new album “Pink Friday,” what does she decide to do? SHE GETS EMINEM! And she also sings “I Feel Pretty” from West Side Story. After you’re done listening to it, you kind of have to sit for a few seconds and think, “Really?” And then you’ll click play again.
